Two juveniles were taken into custody following the quick response of Knoxville Police Department officers to a report of a possible car burglary in progress in downtown Knoxville.
At around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, KPD officers were dispatched to the State Street Garage, where it was reported that two masked individuals wearing backpacks were thought to be breaking into vehicles.
Responding officers spotted two young males wearing ski masks and carrying backpacks walking through a parking lot next to State Street Garage. Officers attempted to stop the two males, who subsequently ran from officers. Officers captured one subject, a16-year-old male, on State Street, while the other subject, a 15-year-old male, was eventually apprehended on Summit Hill Drive near Gay Street.
A search of the backpacks the two subjects were carrying resulted in the discovery of over 160 combined grams of individually packaged marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and other items believed to have been taken during a car burglary. That included a debit card that was stolen from a car, which was later returned to the victim.
Both juveniles were arrested for numerous charges, including vehicle burglary and evading arrest.
